Dawson City Music Festival

A setting sun sets the clouds a fire with a red sunset above the Snake River, in the northern Yukon. A red nova craft canoe in the foreground.

Are you looking for a fun and exciting way to travel to the Dawson City Music Festival this year? If your answer is yes, why not try out one of our Yukon River canoe packages!

The Yukon River is best known for assisting the gold seekers during the Klondike Gold Rush. This is a fascinating and pleasurable river for the beginner to advanced paddler, and you will even see relics of several old steamers, cabins and gold dredges along the way. At the end of your adventure you will reach our historic “City of Gold” just like the gold rush people over 100 years ago – by boat!

Each package includes a weekend pass to the festival, transfer to the starting point of your river trip, a tandem canoe, and return transportation from Dawson to Whitehorse. We will provide details on where to leave the canoe and equipment upon arrival in Dawson prior to your departure on the river.

There are three route options available depending on how long you would like to be on the water:

Minto to Dawson

This package is perfect for those who would like to paddle a part of the Yukon River, but may be limited on time. On this section you can explore the first Euroamerican settlement on the upper Yukon River at Fort Selkirk. The many islands strewn across the river make a great habitat for moose – so keep your eyes peeled and cameras ready!

Carmacks to Dawson

This route is great for those who want to spend a little more time on the water, but are not able to paddle the full stretch from Whitehorse. This section begins with some excitement as you run the famous 5 Finger Rapids shortly after leaving Carmacks. Between Rink Rapids and Yukon Crossing you can look for a layer of white volcanic ash known as “Sam McGee’s Ashes” that is thought to be from eruptions in Alaska some thousands of years ago. On it’s stretch to Dawson City the river widens and accommodates for a lot of islands which break up the river width and make for an interesting landscape.

This option is ideal for those who have plenty of time to spare and would like to experience the beauty of the Yukon River all the way from Whitehorse to Dawson. This trip begins right in downtown Whitehorse just down the street from our store. You will paddle down Lake Laberge which showcases beautiful scenery and a tonne of great campsites to choose from. Once you reach Lower Laberge, you will start traveling down the Thirty Mile Heritage River. This is a faster section of the river and offers excellent fishing and more amazing views. You will have the opportunity to explore Hootalinqua, an historic Northwest Mounted Police outpost, and many other interesting sites along the way including Big Salmon Village and Little Salmon Village. After about 8 days you’ll reach Carmacks where you can resupply, and grab a burger at the Coal Mine Campground before continuing on to Dawson.
