Wind River Options

Nisutlin River KayakYou are far away from everything and you paddle one of the famous rivers of the Peel River Watershed. You will be experiencing amazing wildlife viewing opportunities, crystal-clear streams, enormous untouched animal habitat, and you are in for two weeks of the most authentic wilderness travel.
The Upper Wind is located within the Mackenzie Mountains Eco-region. It starts in the high elevation of the Wernecke Mountains, and eventually braids and meanders into its lower sections as it crosses the Peel River Plateau. The Wind River is part of the Peel River Watershed, traditional territory of the Nacho N’y’ak Dun and Tetl’it Gwich’in First Nations – and an area up for protection and conservation due to its unique ecosystem and pristine wilderness setting. This river boasts swift currents with sharp bends as well as the occasional Class II rapid. Paddlers must pay close attention as sometimes the relatively flat surface hides the trickiest and most technical water.

Much of this region is at a high elevation and is either unvegetated rock or scree, or alpine tundra and birch-willow shrubland. This invites us to hike up grand slopes and lonely valleys, to scenic plateaus and peaks with experience mind-boggling views over an area unparalleled in the world.

The Wind River is a remote river with high recreational values that appeals to those outdoor enthusiast seeking a wilderness river in a northern setting.
