Trip Itinerary

Day 1

We will meet you at your hotel lobby at 10:00 am. After a brief stop at Up North Adventures for paperwork and gear check, we leave for the trailhead where guests receive their snow machine orientation and safety lesson. After checking to make sure everyone is ready, we leave for our 3 day adventure! The rest of the morning will be spent snowmobiling north towards Braeburn. We drive through an amazing panorama, along frozen lakes and through dense pine forest heavily snowed on. Lunch will be held on the trail before continuing to our first camp – an evening spent in a traditional wall tent. A dependable Yukon stove will keep us warm and provides our well-earned supper. The first night in our sleeping bags! (Lunch and dinner)

Day 2

We start the morning with a hearty breakfast in the wall tents, after which we break camp and continue along the trail. The winter wonderland has gotten hold of us. This snow-white landscape is our constant companion. We are far from any place we know. At Braeburn Lodge we’ll have a quick stop for fresh cinnamon buns and then continue on to Coghlan Lake Lodge, our stop for the evening. This night is spent at the remote lodge in the middle of a vast wilderness setting. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner)

Day 3

Our final day breaks. We say good-by to a magical place, while the sun rises slowly above the horizon. We need to pack up and check gear before departing down the trail to Deep Creek. We are now well trained in snowmobiling and always on the look-out for animal tracks any wildlife. A hot lunch on the trail is followed by rendezvousing with the shuttle driver in the early afternoon for return to Whitehorse. A last cozy night at your hotel. (Breakfast and lunch)

Day 4

Now experience traditional travel by dog sled! You will be picked up at 10AM in the hotel lobby. Then we drive to the Sky High Wilderness Ranch, 20km south of Whitehorse where we outfit you with your expedition clothing. Enjoy a hot lunch and then be introduced to your 4 legged companions for the tour. Now you learn the basics of dog care, checking their feet and shoulders, dog massage and parts of the sled. Harness your team, hook up and go for your very first run! Take in the untouched beauty of the northern wilderness. After taking care of the dogs, cleaning and feeding we can enjoy the sauna, have a shower, eat a hot dinner and cozy up by the fire. (Lunch & dinner)

Day 5

While the sun lifts slowly over the magnificent horizon, we say good morning to our new canine friends and ensure they are fed, watered and happy. Then sit in the comfort of our lodge dining room to have breakfast and plan our day. Today we cover approx 35km in distance sledding towards secluded Jackson Lake. The only sound will be the runners in the snow, the working dogs, and your words of encouragement. Today you will begin to notice each dog’s personality and form a bond that only man and dog can understand. With every stop, praise and show affection for your dogs, they will learn to trust you and you them. Relax in our sod roof sauna before retiring for the night. Overnight at Sky High Wilderness Ranch. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)

Day 6

Today your team will pull you east of the ranch. As you climb in elevation you head onto an old abandoned mining road on McIntyre Mountain. Enjoy the rugged landscape of the coastal mountains nestling Fish Lake in it’s valley. Keep an eye out for wildlife – you never know what you might see! Return to Sky High lodge for the night. Take care of the dogs, then curl up by the fire or sit around the dinner table recounting your adventures with others. There is dinner and a gravity fed shower waiting for you in the main lodge. (Breakfast, lunch & dinner)

Day 7

This day takes you towards beautiful Bonneville Lakes, west of the ranch. The trails are narrower here with some challenging ups and downs. The scenery is breathtaking and the coastal mountains are always in view to the south and west. Part of the trip will be above the tree line and will allow you to easily cover 20-30km. A breath of new life will creep slowly into your soul and in harmony with the running rhythm of your team you will enjoy nature like you have never experienced it before. Take it all in and these memories will go with you as you continue your journey home. In late afternoon we drive you to Whitehorse where you spend your last night at a hotel. Here you will receive your musher’s diploma and a shuttle pass. (Breakfast & lunch)

Day 8

Over breakfast you can start planning your next wilderness adventure and contact us about even more challenging tours that we offer. The shuttle service van brings you to the airport for your homebound flight…. Or better yet, complete your Yukon winter experience, by joining another tour offered.
