Aurora Island

Day 1: Our friendly staff will pick you up from your downtown Whitehorse accommodations and whisk you away to the airport. Here, you will embark on a private charter plane that will land on the frozen lake outside our exclusive off-the-grid island wilderness retreat. Now that you have enjoyed a bird’s-eye view of the area, it’s time to get acquainted with our spectacular Aurora Island Adventure Retreat and meet the Experience Director who will ensure your stay is everything you had wished for. Settle into your home away from home and feel your stresses fade away as you immerse yourself in the natural beauty of glistening snow-covered trees, the dazzling frozen lake and stunning skyscapes. Enjoy your first prepared meal of your stay upon settling in. Using local ingredients in all our dishes whenever possible, you are in for scrumptious meals and we promise you will not go hungry! After lunch, capture the pristine beauty on a snowshoe walk around the Island, keeping your eyes out for prints left in the snow by resident wildlife such as foxes, hares, moose, deer and the elusive lynx. In the evening, allow us to continue your flavour journey with the alluring aromas of your three-course dinner, drawing you to the dining table for another memorable meal. Following your delectable dinner, opt to play a board game, read a book or take in a rejuvenating sauna session. Recline and relax in the living space with a hot beverage, in hopes of catching the Aurora Borealis as the evening continues to get darker- setting the perfect stage.

Day 2: After a peaceful night, wake up to a Yukon breakfast, complete with a hot mug of locally roasted coffee. Ease into your day with a relaxing morning of ice fishing, where our Experience Director will share their knowledge and with any luck, you’ll have a bite or two by a lake trout, whitefish or pike. Continue your day’s adventures by hitting the trails on a guided snowmobile expedition. Slide onto a portion of the route that countless Yukon Quest mushers have taken and relish in the immaculate wilderness surrounding you. A campfire lunch will be enjoyed along the trail. After exploring the peaceful area, return to the lodge and sit back and laze the rest of the afternoon away. In the evening, the fireplace sets the mood for the next culinary treat. With any luck, you will be dining on your self-caught fish, but don’t worry, there is a backup plan and your tastebuds will be dancing regardless! Following dinner, enjoy the healing benefits of the sauna as you wait for the Aurora Borealis to make an appearance.

Day 3: After your second restful night, awake to the aroma of coffee brewing and breakfast being prepared. Take the morning to ease into your day with an optional activity (see options below) or simply enjoy relaxing in the warm living space, while enveloped in a cozy blanket. Savour your final delectable meal with us, as it’s unfortunately time pack your bags – your magical time at Aurora Island Adventure has almost come to an end. Board your private flight and revel in the panoramic experience as your return to the beautiful Wilderness City, Whitehorse. Our welcoming staff will meet you at the airport to transport you to your downtown accommodations.
