Guided Pelly River Tour
The Pelly River is ideal for the intermediate paddler. Depending on water levels you will find class II rapids, such as Little Fish Hook and Big Fish Hook, or the Granite Canyon featuring a swift current and playful standing waves. The remote Pelly River thrives with intact wildlife habitat.
Arrival in Whitehorse. The Up North Adventures shuttle will greet you at the airport. Meet the other trip participants and let your guide verify your personal gear, while answering any of your questions. Participants are then invited to explore the City of Whitehorse, enjoy a good meal or take in some historic sights on their own. Enjoy your first night in Whitehorse in a downtown hotel (included in price) located within walking distance of many attractions and restaurants.
Day 2
Group officially meets at 10:00am at the Up North base in Whitehorse. After a quick gear review to make sure participants are properly equipped, we will be shuttled by van to the small northern town of Faro, about a 4.5 hour drive, and the start of our Pelly River adventure. The afternoon will be spent getting acquainted with our gear and boats and paddling the first kilometres of the river. Our first wilderness evening will be spent on the river shore complete with a lovely campfire and, if we’re lucky, the howling of wolves in the distance!
Day 3-8
Our canoe trip continues on the Pelly River. We will master the wonderful world of whitewater with an extensive introduction and/or review of techniques and safety. Sightings of bear, wolf, caribou or moose are quite common on the shores of this lonely river. Lots of opportunities for our anglers may bring world-class catches. A thrilling ride through Granite Canyon and past spectacular Needle Rock brings us near to the end of this expedition into the wild. Have your camera ready for shots of the beautiful mountain landscapes of the Glennlyan Range.
Day 9
Today we arrive at Pelly Crossing the end of our adventure. The Up North shuttle is waiting to bring us back to Whitehorse and the well earned comforts of civilization. Another night in Whitehorse and an evening with our “water comrades” at a nice restaurant will forge this trip into an unforgettable memory.
Day 10
Departure day. We will bring you back to the airport or you can start your next adventure.
