Guided Nisutlin River Tour

 7 days / 6 nights   6 Guests / Guide   Difficulty: Beginner Canoeist   137 Kilometres (85 Miles)

The Nisutlin River is one of the few southerly flowing rivers in the Yukon River watershed. The Nisutlin River starts in the Pelly Mountains and flows southeast towards the village of Teslin. Traveling through the beautiful Yukon southern lakes region, you will admire a vast wilderness, home to an abundance of wildlife, and breathtaking scenery. A favourite past time after a day of paddling is casting your hook for “the big catch” of Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Arctic Grayling.

The Nisutlin River is gentle flowing and picturesque as you paddle through the Yukon’s amazing landscape. This region, with its low wetlands, is a summer home for many species of migratory birds and waterfowl and is known for its immense moose population. An excellent choice for any outdoor enthusiast.

Day 1:

Arrival in Whitehorse, pick-up and meeting of trip participants at the airport and overnight stay at your hotel. Your guide will verify your personal gear and go through any last minute questions. Participants are then invited to explore the City of Whitehorse, enjoy a good meal or take in some historic sights on their own.

Day 2
Group officially meets at 10:00am at the Up North office and store in downtown Whitehorse. After a quick gear review to make sure participants are properly equipped, we will be shuttled by van to Nisutlin Landing, a three-hour drive, and the start of our Nisutlin River adventure. The afternoon will be spent getting acquainted with our gear and boats and paddling for a few hours. A relaxing evening will be spent on the river shore complete with a roaring campfire.

Day 3 – 6
The canoe trip down the Nisutlin River continues. This river offers unique wildlife habitat and is one of the few rivers that actually flows south in the Yukon. Highlights include wildlife viewing with potential sightings of black bear, moose, caribou, wolverine, bald eagle. Don’t forget the fishing rod for the world class fishing. Camping in tents and eating by the campfire while under the “midnight sun”, provides the foundation for a truly unique wilderness experience.

Day 7
The group will arrive in Teslin Village at the end of our Nisutlin River adventure. Our last day on the river, we pass through world renowned migratory bird’s nesting grounds at the delta of the Nisutlin River. With good conditions it will take us a couple of hours to cross the bay of Teslin Lake. The Up North shuttle will pick us up around 1:00pm and return us to Whitehorse. Your last day in our little capital and another well earned night at the comforts of you hotel awaits you.

Day 8
Departure Day. We will bring you back to the airport or – better yet – you can join another wonderful adventure with Up North Adventures.

Note:
Due to the expeditionary nature of this program, changes to the itinerary are a possibility and are left up to the discretion of the guide. All attempts will be made to complete the trip within the outlined timeline.
